Toilet CCTV Survey

Plumsun Ltd has been commissioned to complete an independent review of the school’s decision and process to install CVTV in the toilet areas, following concerns raised by students of not feeling safe.

Plumsun is registered with the ICO, registration number Z3546840. We take handling of any personal data seriously. We will only ask for the minimum personal data needed to complete our review.

This questionnaire is part of a consultation document following feedback from students about their concern for safety in the toilet areas, the action the school took, and the installation of CCTV.

  • To assess the requirement for action as a result of students not feeling safe in toilet areas.
  • To consider if and how CCTV could be used to improve safety, but with due regard for privacy.
  • To form a plan for implementation of any agreed changes.
Your participation and answers to this short questionnaire are important, as they will help to provide a comprehensive assessment.

This questionnaire is completely confidential. Except for names and postcodes, personal information, responses and opinions will not be disclosed to anyone, including the school. Any results will be anonymised. However, if specific incidents are disclosed involving someone’s safety, then we do have a duty to inform the school.

Names and postcodes are used to ensure that responses are only from those with a legitimate interest and that there is only one response per person. The school will be requested to check these details against registered parents.

The questionnaire results will be deleted after two months.

If you have specific concerns about an incident that has occurred, or you want to disclose a safeguarding concern, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Can you suggest any actions the school should take to respond to student’s feedback that they do not feel safe in the toilets?
  Yes No
Do you think the use of CCTV in the toilets should be used to help address students’ safety concerns? It is always presumed that surveillance would only be in communal hand-washing areas; not in cubicles or any locations where students might be in a state of undress.
If you answered No to the above, what modifications, if any, might change your response to Yes?
If CCTV is used in the communal hand washing areas of the toilets to help address students’ safety concerns, do you think it should:

For how long would you suggest CCTV footage should be kept if the school is not aware of any safeguarding incident?
If Other, please state
  Yes No
To address students concerns for safety whilst in the toilet area, other schools have opened up the washroom area by removing walls and taking away urinals and adapting the cubicles.
Would you consider this a possible solution if it were a practical proposition for the school?
Do you consider communal washroom areas as being private?
Considering the school’s concern to act quickly following feedback from students about not feeling safe in the toilet area, do you consider that the school acted reasonably to address the concern, even if you disagree with the chosen CCTV solution.
If no, what do you suggest the school could have done better?
