A critical incident is an actual or an alleged event that creates significant risk of substantial harm to others and requires complex decision making from school leaders.

Critical incidents are part of business continuity management planning. The importance pre-thought, discussion and planning supports swift and effective decision-making in order to prevent an incident developing further into an uncontrolled crisis.

The Aim of the Course:
The course provides examples and scenarios of critical incidents and how to manage critical incidents in school.

The course will help school leaders prepare in preventing the escalation of an incident in terms of its media coverage, reputational damage and possible legal or regulatory implications.

The course highlights the need for preparation, documentation, team development and stakeholder communications, alongside the importance of recovery strategies.
